We will be posting a new video log next week which will tell the story of what we’ve been up to for the last 6 months and where View of Courage Studios and I are heading next..its been a challenging though ultimately very rewarding time around here..down time, quiet time, thinking time, feeling time, heavy time, crying time, angry time, crazy time, nourishing time, questioning time, clarifying time, confirming time, focusing time, considering time, now FULL STEAM AHEAD time.

We move into a new studio/gallery space this weekend. A brand new open studio space, set-up like a gallery with a street front but really its an open artist studio, I like the idea of exposing the artistic process, making it breathe, giving it a public angle. Its located on busy Regent street in Redfern, Sydney Australia. Keeping it in the hood. Keeping it soft yet strong, quiet though heard. Setting an example for believing in what you do, doing it for good reasons and not turning back.

A Foreign Light video piece by Flutter Lyon & Husein Alicajic

This is the video piece I co-directed last year with award-winning filmmaker Husein Alicajic, who is known for his work for Sydney Dance Company amongst many other high-profile clients.

The piece was show at the multi-platform live show A Foreign Light, that I Creative Directed as a part of the Creative Sydney 2010 program at the Museum for Contemporary Art.

RUBBING Nik Kamvissis opens Tuesday 22 June for LEFT COAST

You are invited to the latest exhibition by Nik Kamvissis featuring his pop-up puppets brought back from Puppet Island where he has been holidaying for the last 42 years.

“Rubbing the visual languages of abstraction, comics and minimalism till they breakdown and vomit a new life that never lived before, starring in Re-Animator, with a new soundtrack by Fleetwood Mac while the whole pile succumbs to the Rubbing virus, to create anew out of its mind, again and again.”

“Hey listen, man! Rubber thunder pencil coloured searching for an answer has brought about many tears on these empty nights so we say goodbye my friends so long au revoir leaving you with some warm sunshine.”

Nik also plays in Australian noise rock band Menstruation Sisters. With an international following including the likes of Thurston Moore, Menstruation Sisters are more of a natural phenomenon than a musical group. Owing more to the sound of ice melting and eggs hatching than strummed guitars and pounded drums, the Sisters keep one ear on the ground and the other towards the atmosphere.

A selection of his record art from the group’s releases by Nik will also be shown on the night.

Nik’s visual work is a fascinating departure or point of return from his sound with the Sisters, powerful imagery from imagined and real places inside of the one and only mind and body of Kamvissis.
