VIEWS OF COURAGE

View of Courage | Urban Dragon Project

August 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The count down is on to the launch of the View of Courage Urban Dragon Project at the Chalk Urban Arts Festival on 6 – 7 September, Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour.

The 8 metre dragon structure will be installed onsite on the Saturday morning of the festival. Over the Saturday and Sunday, a team of View of Courage artists will fabricate the dragon with a variety of brightly coloured embellishments. In a limited colour scheme of reds, pinks, oranges and yellows accented by black detailing, the embellishments will include pom-poms, ruffles, felt cut-outs, roping, plaited fabrics, tassles and neon origami.

It is a very special opportunity to watch a creative process. An artists creative process is an intimate one, one that is often hidden behind the closed doors of the studio.

View of Courage lives up to its name by making a bold move into the unknown and allowing an audience to view the creation of such a large scale art piece. Anything could go wrong, but then a whole lot could go right. Either way, the pressure will be on to get the piece completed by 3pm on the Sunday of the festival, at which time the dragon will be lifted from its place and become the centrepiece of a kaleidoscopic procession of children, colour, dancers, flags and drummers.

This is a project that is courageous, beautiful, powerful and enriching.

If you would like to be involved in this project, through the making of embellishments over the next two weeks or by being an artist onsite at the festival, please email whispers@viewofcourage.com

Spread the word about this very special event and see you at Chalk Urban Arts Festival 08 | 6 -7 September!!
